I was asked if I would write something up for blog Monday and I (of course) agreed, and maybe I did so a little preemptively. I’ve had a few berjillion ideas running around in my head since she posed that simple request: What in the world does someone write about on a blog? Do I talk about beer? Or maybe I should write about how the new place is doing? What if I don’t sound savvy enough and I make a poor impression (since this is my first blog entry)?
Ah, screw it.
Hello fellow humans my name is Sharon and I am an intern at Tractor Brewing Company. I started working here about a month ago and I help out with just about anything. Today I’m trying to figure out financial reports (omg fun!), last week I got to try to get a permit for an event we will be doing later this month, and before that… honestly it’s a giant blur of paperwork, grunts of frustration, and a barrel load of laughs.
You might be thinking: “An internship at a brewery? That’s the sweetest gig ever!” and you would be right, but there is a price that comes with job. This is a small business and if you’ve ever experienced working in one of those, it all comes down to who works there. Everyone has to bring their A game, even the office intern. Don’t get me wrong it has been a ton of fun working here but it has also been a lot of work. The phrase “work hard, play hard” comes to mind and I’m completely ok with that. So far everyone has been really helpful and friendly (but it would be a bit difficult to be a grumpy butt working at a brewery right? )
I guess I will talk a little about the beer and the new place.
I am a stone-cold, die-hard, dyed-in-the-wool, IPA woman BUT I have to admit I’ve become a huge fan of the barley wine here. It is slightly sweet, mellow, and so smooth; all things that are a world away from my favorite piney and bitter drink of choice. Who would have thought I’d be the one changing my mind about beverages? Maybe I’m just getting old haha.
As for the new place, it is absolutely beautiful. A significant amount of labor hours have gone into making this place the work of art it has become and it shows. This converted cabinet factory has become something of a diamond-in-the-rough in the most unlikely of places. (I mean, we are literally next to the railroad tracks!)
So as I end my first ever blog entry, I’ll say that you should be a little adventurous. Come check out a new place (that just happens to be at 1800 4th street NW Albuquerque, NM 87102) and try something a little different. Who knows, maybe your palate will thank you for switching up the flavors.
Cheers,
Sharon
P.S. Yeah, that was totally a shameless plug to try to get you to come to our new place. Can you blame me though? I mean this place is pretty sweet. 😀
